Press Molders Council

About

The Press Molders Council (PMC) is one of ACMA's Composites Growth Initiative (CGI) Committees. This specialty industry committee is focused on promoting composites fabricated through the compression molding manufacturing process.

Mission Statement

Promote the use and understanding of thermoset molded products into a diverse set of markets.  Coordinate the development and promotion of thermoset composite materials and products used in these markets. Undertake proactive activities dealing with education, legislative, regulatory, marketing, and development of standards. Engage government agencies and legislators to influence legislation and identify programs and solicit funding to facilitate the specification of composites technology.  Communicate product innovations and successes in the marketplace and to the public in general through trade and consumer press and media.

Members

There are currently 14 companies that belong to ACMA's Press Molders Council. Seven of the companies are fabricators; the remaining companies are material suppliers or distributors.

Achievements

The PMC is one of CGI’s newest committees launched in 2011.  Member companies of the compression molding industry have been very active in the development of ACMA’s Certified Composites Technician – Compression Molding to ensure the industry is developing quality products through education of manufacturing personnel.  Several years ago, based on actions within the Ohio EPA and USEPA Region 5, several member companies of the PMC determined that an enhanced understanding of compression molding emissions was necessary to move the dialog forward. As such it was determined that precise measurements of emissions from the sheet molding compound (SMC), bulk molding compound (BMC), and liquid composites molding (LCM) processes would be undertaken to provide industry‐wide data for the purpose of permitting, compliance, and estimating facility emissions.  A project was launched and was both funded and participated by members of PMC.  Extensive testing performed to measure emissions.  This information successfully helped compression molders deal with potentially harmful regulatory regulations.

Become a Member

The Press Molders Council is open to any member of the American Composites Manufacturers Association interested in growing compression composites. There are no additional costs beyond ACMA membership. For more information or to apply for membership, please contact Andrew Huber.
