Codes and Standards
American Composites Manufacturers Association (ACMA) Activity
The ACMA Composites Growth Initiative and its Committees are active in the development of relevant codes, standards, specifications, guidelines that are important to the growth of the composites industry. Below is a compilation of work that ACMA has been directly involved in the development of the respective documents.
The ACMA is an ANSI Approved Standards Developer ASD), utilizing the Canvas Panel process to develop and maintain its standards. Each standard has its own Relevant committee that is responsible for overseeing the maintenance of the standard. Public comments are accepted anytime, and will be considered in the normal revi sion cycles of each Standard Relevant committee. The following section deals with these standards.
ANSI/ICPA SS-1-2001 - Performance Standard for Solid Surface Materials - This standard covers requirements and test methods for minimum performance pertaining to structure, renewability, water resistance, colorfastness, stain resistance, cleanability and other significant properties, in addition to general requirements of materials, workmanship and finish of solid surface materials. These products can be used for countertops, wall panels, window sills and other architectural applications.
ANSI/ACMA/ICPA UEF-1-2011a - Estimating Emission Factors from Open Molding Composite Processes and Other Composite Processes - The Emission Factors will include emission estimates from open molding and other processes used in the composites industry. It will provide the user with a mechanism to estimate emissions based on the production process, materials being used and techniques employed. The final emission estimates will satisfy state and federal requirements for permit compliance and reporting emissions on Form R.
ANSI/ACMA/PIC - Standard Practice – 2011 – Code of Standard Practice - Industry Guidelines for Fabrication and Installation of Pultruded FRP Structures - This Code of Standard Practice provides recommendations for construction contract documents, fabrication and installation of pultruded FRP structures. In the absence of other instructions in the particular contract documents that take precedence over the practices provided in this Code of Standard Practice these practices are recommended by reference for the fabrication and installation of pultruded FRP structures.
