ANS (American National Standards)

ACMA is an ANSI Approved Standards Developer (ASD). ACMA develops standards thru the use of Relevant Committees. These committees are comprised of industry recognized leaders, and include representatives from manufacturing, suppliers, material and equipment, government regulators (when appropriate), general interest and end users.

ACMA’s Relevant Committees follow processes as set forth by ANSI’s Essential Requirements: Due process requirements for American National Standards. The process for standards development utilizes the canvas method, and is open and balanced to assure due process for the standard development.

Each standard has its own Relevant Committee that is responsible for overseeing the maintenance of the standard. Public comments are accepted anytime, and will be considered in the normal revision cycles of each Standard Relevant committee. The following section deals with these standards.

ACMA’s due process means that any person, organization, company, government agency or individual with a direct and material interest in the standard has a right to participate which includes the right to express a position and its basis, the right of having that position considered, and the right to appeal. This right is defined in the ANSI Essential Requirements.

ACMA has adopted ACMA: Standards Development for developing and maintaining ANS. The ANSI Essential Requirements is the underlying foundation for the ACMA Standard Development, and provides guidance when ACMA’s standards development procedure is silent.
