ACMA to Hold Congressional Caucus Event on Transportation Infrastructure June 19, 2009 (Arlington, Va.)—The American Composites Manufacturers Association (ACMA) will hold its first Transportation Infrastructure Lobby Day and Congressional Composites Caucus event in Washington, D.C., July 15-16, 2009. Focusing on the use of composite materials, the event will educate Members of Congress on the importance of composites in improving our nation’s transportation infrastructure and will support language in a new surface transportation bill that will favor the use of innovative materials. “Composite components such as bridge beams and decks, with their corrosion- and rust-resistance, high strength-to-weight ratios and enhanced service life, offer long-lasting and cost-effective solutions for critical components of transportation systems,” says Monty Felix, President-Elect of ACMA. “Through the Congressional Composites Caucus event, ACMA members will be promoting legislation that advances the use of composites materials, which can improve longevity and reduce life-cycle costs of our nation’s transportation systems.” On July 15, the event will include a Capitol Hill luncheon and dinner as well as a reception at the Rayburn House Office Building with industry speakers and table-top exhibits demonstrating how composites build sustainability in transportation infrastructure. ACMA members also will be visiting the offices of their Representatives and Senators throughout the day on July 15 and during the morning on July 16. Additional program and registration information is available at www.acmanet.org/meetings/composites-caucus.cfm. The Composites Caucus is a growing organization of Representatives and Senators interested in the composites industry. It offers ACMA members an opportunity to meet with Members of Congress and their staff to build support for the industry. The Caucus is co-chaired by Congressman Joe Wilson of South Carolina and Virginia Congressman Rick Boucher.
