CFA Selects 2002 Ace Award Winners

September 27, 2002 (Atlanta, Georgia) — The Composites Fabricators Association (CFA) announced the 2002 Awards for Composites Excellence (ACE) winners Friday, September 27, at the 2002 COMPOSITES show Keynote Session. ACE Award entries, displayed on the trade show floor, spotlight innovative and advanced uses of composites technology. Seven products received ACE Awards, sponsored by AOC and Composites One.

The winners are:

Best of Show “The Pinnacle”- Telair International, A Division of Teleflex Incorporated (USA)’s “Hardened Unit Load Device (HULD)”

People's Choice - Verdant Technologies, Inc.’s “Sit Ski”

Creative Application - Hardcore Composites’ “FRP Composite Wind Fairing”

Market Expansion - University of Maine’s “FRP Composite Drain for Highway Concrete Bridge Decks”

Process Innovation - General Dynamics and Technical Products – Deland Operations’ “Composite Bypass Duct”

Technical Innovations for Corrosion Application (sponsored by Ashland Specialty Chemical Company) - Trail Wagon, Inc.’s “Single Piece Composite Motor Home Shell” for Quality (in an Open Molded Part); and A&M Composites, LP’s “FracGuard Composite Pl

This year’s winners are diverse in nature, as illustrated by the People’s Choice and Pinnacle winners. “The Best of Show winner is a product very closely related to national security,” CFA Manager of Technical Affairs Larry Craigie, CCT, said. “While all of our minds are geared toward the importance of homeland security, this product exemplifies the endless applications that exist for composites.”

COMPOSITES 2002 had an attendance of more than 6,000 attendees from across the globe to Atlanta, GA. The show featured over 200 sessions, covering all facets of composites applications. It is the largest convention and trade show for the composites industry in North America.
