2000th Certified Composites Technician Certified by ACMA

May 2, 2005 (Arlington, VA) –The American Composites Manufacturers Association (ACMA) announced last week that it has reached an important milestone for the composites industry, certifying its 2000th Certified Composites Technician (CCT).

The Certified Composites Technician (CCT) program, created in 1999 by the ACMA, provides uniform training in the technical skills necessary for composites manufacturing, while also raising the level of professionalism and performance within the composites manufacturing industry. The majority of CCTs in the industry today are manufacturing employees. However, suppliers and distributors also have applied for training and certification because it provides them the background necessary to better serve customers.
In addition to improving skills of the work force, manufacturers find the CCT program helps reduce shop waste, increase plant safety, and enhance product quality.

“Manufacturers who have invested in our certification programs have reported significant cost savings benefits,” said Missy Henriksen, CCT-A, Executive Director of ACMA. “The benefits include a reduction in shop floor waste, higher employee morale, and lower employee turnover. Some companies have reported a cost savings of up to $60,000 in one year. These programs, and how they affect overall plant operations, go right to bottom line returns.”

ACMA offers a variety of certification programs including: CCT-Marine; CCT-Cast Polymer; CCT-Compression Molding; CCT- Instructor; and CCM (Certified Composites Manager). ACMA continues to develop new certification programs and is currently working on two new programs: CCT-Solid Surface and CCT-Corrosion.
