ACMA Enters CCT Curriculum Agreement with Wilkes Community College
September 14, 2005 (Arlington, VA) – Building on similar agreements
with the Georgia Aviation Technical College and Honolulu Community College, the
American Composites Manufacturers Association (ACMA) has entered into an academic
agreement with North Carolina’s Wilkes Community College that will allow
WCC to assimilate ACMA’s Certified Composites Technician (CCT) program into
its Continuing Education curriculum.
“In what is becoming a trend with academic institutions that support
the composites industry, we are delighted that Wilkes Community College has
chosen to provide North Carolina’s workforce with the Certified Composites
Technician (CCT) training program through its continuing education department,”
said ACMA Executive Director Missy Henriksen, CCT-A. “ACMA’s charter
is, of course, to support the educational needs of the entire composites community.
We do this by looking ahead as much as possible, anticipating industry needs,
and providing comprehensive solutions and support designed to advance quality
manufacturing of composites products. CCT contributes greatly to this goal.”
Wilkes Community College, an accredited, public, two-year institution and a
member of the North Carolina Community College System, provides quality education
and training in a three-county area, including Ashe, Alleghany, and Wilkes counties
in northwestern North Carolina. As part of its mission, the college supports
the ongoing economic development of the region through quality education, training,
and retraining for the workforce. The CCT program is an outgrowth of the college-led
Northwest North Carolina Advanced Materials Cluster that was formed approximately
18 months ago. Wilkes Community College will be offering the CCT course through
its Continuing Education department.
“As the leader of the advanced materials cluster and a regional leader
in workforce development and training, Wilkes Community College is excited to
partner up with ACMA to develop highly skilled workers through the Certified
Composites Technician program,” said Chris Robinson, Director, Ashe Center,
Wilkes Community College. “The CCT program is a key component for us in
meeting the training needs of our community, the region, and the state.
ACMA’s seven Certified Composites Technician (CCT) programs have now
certified over 2,200 composites professionals. Created in response to the industry’s
need for uniform technical training, the focus of the program is the fundamental
technology used to produce a wide variety of products using the open molding
process.
